Nuggets PR team deserves an award after Michael Porter Jr.'s latest outrageous story

I'm not sure we properly appreciated the lack of distractions

For whatever reason, since leaving the Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. simply cannot keep his mouth closed. He has been making one outrageous comment after another, but he took it to another level in his recent appearance on the Glory Daze podcast with Johnny Manziel.

They were talking about what it was like leaving the Nuggets, and how hard it was saying goodbye to his teammates, specifically Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray. Then, Mike added that the only thing Nikola Jokic told him was to “wrap it up” in Brooklyn, as MPJ reiterated, “Make sure you wear condom out there. That’s all he said.”

Whether this is true or not (I’m guessing it is), I’m sure it was not a message that Jokic wanted MPJ sharing with the world. It was a private moment, likely at least in part, a joke that Jokic was sharing with a longtime teammate.

It was meant to be funny, and there is probably a lot of inside meaning between the two players. But the judgment MPJ uses when he chooses to expose some of his personal comments is opening, to say the least.

And again, this is just the latest in a string of wild comments that have included sports betting, women as a vice, showing women Andrew Tate videos, and more recently.

How did Nuggets avoid these distractions?

It all begs the question: What were the Nuggets doing to protect Mike from himself for all those years? He had his share of questionable comments during his time with the Nuggets, but nothing quite like this recent wave.

Before, it all felt almost accidental, like he was just thinking out loud, but he certainly wasn’t going viral every other day. But in the last few weeks, Mike has been all over social media for all the wrong reasons.

It’s not like he’s breaking the law or anything, but these commentaries are textbook, unnecessary distractions. While MPJ will be missed in Denver, distractions like these will not be missed at all and would not be welcomed currently.

The vibes in Denver are immaculate, and every player, coach, and front office member appears to be in lockstep, focused on nothing but winning another championship. It’s a great feeling, and it deserves to be appreciated that we never really had to worry about distractions like this when Mike was in town.
