Dream #2: Nuggets finally solve the backup center minutes with Moritz Wagner

Wagner may never even be an option as the Magic can still exercise his $8 million team option. But the Magic have lots of big men and they may choose to go in a different direction and let Mo hit free agency to clear up even more cap room.

If so, the Nuggets should definitely put in a call to the veteran German big man. Wagner has become a brute down low, who can do a little bit of everything and provide energy and an edge off the bench. He’d be overqualified to simply back up Jokic, but he could excel in the limited role and possibly play with the Joker against other double-big lineups.

If he’s willing to settle for the MLE or a minimum contract, he’d be the best backup center the Nuggets have had in ages, and he’d immediately solve many of the Denver problems that arise when Jokic heads to the bench.

Wagner can’t be the offensive hub that Jokic is, but he can be a great pick and roll partner for Murray and can punish teams on the offensive glass. He can also provide steady defense on the other end. He’d be a massive upgrade over the current version of DeAndre Jordan.
