1.) Nikola Jokic - 4 years, $228.52 million

There aren’t many teams in the league that can say their highest-paid player is also their most underpaid, but that’s undoubtedly the case here. The Nuggets gave Jokic a full supermax contract, yet he’s clearly worth far more than he’s making.

He has won the league’s MVP award three of the past four seasons and mixed in a Finals MVP during that stretch. He’s established himself as the best player in the world and one of the ten (or so) greatest players to ever live.

Given everything he does for the Nuggets, his contract is a relative bargain. He doesn’t make as much money as Steph Curry, he makes the same amount as Joel Embiid, and he makes only slightly more than players like Paul George, Bradley Beal, Karl-Anthony Towns, and others.

Again, it’s nobody’s fault, these are just the rules of the NBA and the Nuggets are paying Jokic as much as was allowed when he signed. But it’s still insanely good value to employ him on this current contract. As soon as he’s eligible, he’ll likely sign another max extension, and he’ll likely still be underpaid.

There aren’t a lot of players who are truly worth every penny of their max contracts. There are even fewer who are clearly worth more. Jokic checks both of those boxes and then some; he’s a truly special player, and vastly underpaid.
