When is the Denver Nuggets' media day and what to watch for?
By Ben Handler
For fans of the Denver Nuggets, it likely feels like the NBA’s offseason has been going on forever. The Nuggets’ game seven loss to the Timberwolves seems like it was an eternity ago and it’s been nonstop drama and speculation ever since.
It’s hard to blame fans if they’ve gotten a little sick of the discourse and checked out at some point during the long summer. Most of the commentary around the team was pretty negative; they took heat for letting Kentavious Caldwell-Pope walk in free agency.
Things didn’t get any better as first-round pick DaRon Holmes tore his achilles in the first game of Summer League and will be out for the season. The only free agency signings were Dario Saric and Russell Westbrook, which were both met with skepticism.
The team then went through some loud and somewhat controversial contract negotiations with Jamal Murray and have a similar situation looming with Aaron Gordon later this month. It has been one thing after another and very few of them have been positive.
But it’s finally about time to turn the page on the offseason and get ready for a new season. Murray is locked up, and the team is the team. It’s time to move on and embrace the team that the Nuggets have; a very good team for what it’s worth.
When is media day for the Denver Nuggets?
It all starts this Thursday, September 26th with Nuggets media day. It’ll all get started around 10 AM MT and should be covered by all of the major local sports media outlets in Denver. Local beat reporters will be all over it on social media and I’ll be blogging all of the relevant quotes later in the day.
All summer long we’ve been hearing everybody around the league talking about the Nuggets, well now it’s finally time for the Nuggets to do some talking. It’ll be great to hear what Murray has to say about his contract and poor play and health.
It will also be great to hear from Jokic and see what he thinks about the changes to the roster. It should also be fun to hear from Aaron Gordon, who is eligible for a contract extension starting on Friday.
And of course, we’ll get to hear from all of the young Nuggets who are expected to step into bigger roles this year like Christian Braun, Peyton Watson, Julian Strawther, and others. Then there are the new Nuggets, Russell Westbrook and Dario Saric.
And finally, we’ll get to hear from the coach and GM. Supposedly Michael Malone and Calvin Booth were not on the same page earlier this offseason, so now they have a chance to clear the air. It’s just media day, but it should be an interesting one to watch and we should have plenty of notable quotes.
