Peyton Watson: “My goal is to win DPOY”

Although he had flashes and showed improvements, Watson’s sophomore season was a bit disappointing overall as he ended up out of the playoff rotation by the second round. The team had high hopes for Watson - and they still do. But he has to step it up, get more consistent, and accentuate his best skills.

Where he can really shine and carve out his niche on this team is on the defensive end. By losing KCP, they lost the anchor of their defense and the guy who would lock down the other team’s best guard or wing player.

That’s a role that Watson should embrace and strive to fill. He has the size, speed, and athleticism to match up with some of the best players in the league, but he has to hone his craft and improve his discipline. He has all the tools but he is going to have to buy in and focus on that end.

If he’s willing to sacrifice and work for it, it’s all there for him. If he focuses on becoming an elite wing defender, he can help fill a hole and take this team to another level. It’s no easy task, but that should be the goal.
