1 dream quote we wish to hear from every Denver Nugget at media day
By Ben Handler
Russell Westbrook: “I will do whatever it takes to win a ring”
This is what has plagued Russ in the latter stages of his career; is he willing to sacrifice for the team? We’ve yet to truly see him embrace a smaller role and show the necessary buy-in to be a great role player.
For so long, he was so used to being a ball-dominant offensive do-it-all hub. But those days are behind him. He needs to show a willingness to leave his old ways behind and do the little things that help a team win.
He needs to buy in on defense, he needs to be willing to cut and screen when he doesn’t have the ball, he needs to turn down jump shots and focus on driving and creating, and he needs to be unselfish and take a backseat to guys like Jokic and Murray.
Westbrook is still incredibly talented and he’s one of the best athletes to ever play this game. There are a lot of ways that he can help the Nuggets. But there are also a lot of ways that he can hurt the Nuggets.
If he can truly put his ego aside and do the dirty work that this team so desperately needs to be done, this may be a beautiful marriage and Russ could be the perfect sixth man for Denver. If not, this could be a disaster that ends in an ugly and abrupt divorce.
