There are a lot of current NBA media members competing to be the loudest voice preaching the most idiotic takes. The competition is crowded at the talk, but Kendrick Perkins of ESPN may currently hold the title belt. Perk spouts off one moronic opinion after another and he changes his mind and takes like the weather.

It’s genuinely insulting and demeaning to basketball fans to keep trotting Perk out there in this prominent role just to have him spew garbage at the audience (or whatever poor soul is forced to “debate” him). The narratives he pushes and the (mostly negative and nonsensical) discourse he creates are disturbing to true fans of the game who just want to hear basketball analysis.

Kendrick Perkins with an embarrassing Rudy Gobert rant

But sadly, this is the world we live in and this is the current NBA media landscape, from the worldwide leader in sports no less! Well, on Tuesday, Perkins used his platform on the show First Take to run his mouth about the Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert.

Perkins claimed to be embarrassed that he voted for Rudy and said that he has now tarnished this award with his play. He stated that Gobert is not respected by his peers and essentially made fun of him for not being able to guard Nikola Jokic in the Nuggets series.

Kendrick Perkins makes a fool of himself

As usual, Perk’s entire take is ridiculous. For one, it’s a regular season award and Gobert was remarkable during the regular season. Furthermore, the Wolves' defense has been significantly better with Gobert on the floor in these playoffs, including in the Western Conference Finals against the Mavericks.

Sadly, overreacting to what his eyes tell him based on one game (or even one play) is totally on brand for Perkins and something his audience has become used to. The only thing that he was right about was that he should be embarrassed. But not because of who he voted for. Perkins should be embarrassed for this pathetic spiteful rant about Gobert. And the league should be embarrassed that Kendrick Perkins has a vote for league awards.
