Would the Nuggets say yes?
If the Nuggets gave this trade the green light, it could quickly push them down the Western Conference standings. Denver wouldn't have to give up assets, but it's not worth losing Porter Jr.
The forward's offensive production dipped this past season compared to the Nuggets' title run in 2022-23, but he still averaged 16.7 points on 39.7% shooting from three. He was productive on the boards, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, LaVine's production dipped significantly in recent seasons. Although the sample size was small last season, he shot a worrisome 34.9% from three. In 2022-23, he averaged 24.8 points per game on 37.5% shooting from deep as one of the Bulls' top options.
There's a reason why LaVine is still in Chicago. His contract and injury history are red flags. If he can stay healthy and be productive in the first half of the season, maybe the Bulls will finally be able to move on from him before the deadline. He has a lot to prove to opposing NBA teams that might be interested.
It's still way too early to consider sending Porter Jr. to Chicago for LaVine. In all honesty, it's a deal Denver should never consider. Porter Jr. has his flaws, but LaVine has more.
