Leaked Denver Nuggets city edition jerseys look surprisingly good

I’ll be upfront here; I’m generally not a fan of city edition jerseys. I am a big fan of NBA jerseys and I love throwbacks and even some alternates throughout the years. But the city edition jerseys have always seemed like an uncreative money grab by the league to try and sell more merchandise.

I don’t hate the idea in general, but the execution has been consistently poor for years. The jerseys leave a lot to desire and have been sadly underwhelming. Most years, I can count on one hand the amount of these jerseys across the league that I actually like. And frankly, most of them are an abomination to the great game of basketball and the history of the NBA.

So needless to say, my expectations for this year’s city edition jerseys were in the toilet. By now, I’m basically just hoping they don’t hurt my eyes to look at or completely ruin the viewing experience for fans.

Well, most of the jerseys leaked in recent days and I’m shocked to say that I actually like the Nuggets’ version. Now part of this may certainly be my low bar for success on these jerseys, but I’m trying to be positive here. I think they did a solid job and the jerseys actually seem pretty easy on the eyes.

So far only the white version of the jersey has been released, but it nicely incorporates the old rainbow design up and down the sides and in the font on the front. It’s a solid color scheme that’s not completely indistinct to the team.

They could still completely both this if the dark-colored jersey isn’t done well, but the white one gives me reason for optimism. My one complaint with the leak would be that I’m not big on the 5280 lettering on the front instead of “Denver” or “Nuggets”, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I’m especially pleasantly surprised that I like the Nuggets’ city edition jersey because most of the rest of the league’s look terrible. Overall, after looking at the rest of the teams’, my opinions coming into the year were justified. They look terrible and some almost seem like some kind of cruel joke (hello, Celtics!).

But that makes me even more grateful that the Nuggets’ jersey seems pretty decent. We may have gotten lucky and dodged a bullet, and it may still be ruined by the dark jersey. But for now, Nuggets fans can be happy that their city edition jerseys aren’t completely miserable.
