Looking at confirmed NBA All-Star Game locations and predicting future ones
By Ben Handler
Considering the NBA preseason hasn’t even started yet, it may feel like this coming season’s all-star game is ages away. But the reality is that the regular season will be here before you know it, and things don’t really slow down until the all-star break.
It’s not on the mind of Nuggets fans at the moment, but barring injury, it’s a near certainty that the team will have at least one all-star in Nikola Jokic. They certainly are hoping that another player like Jamal Murray or Aaron Gordon may even elevate their game to all-star status this season.
Jokic has made six straight all-star games and last missed out in 2018, in his age-23 season. Murray has notably never made an all-star game during his career, nor has Gordon. In fact, the only other players on the Nuggets’ roster to make an all-star game are Russell Westbrook and DeAndre Jordan.
But Russ hasn’t made it since 2020 with the Rockets (that was four teams ago) and DJ made his lone appearance in 2017 with the Clippers. Anybody but Jokic making the game is a long shot, but hopefully, somebody new will vault themselves into the conversation this season.
Where will this season's NBA all-star game take place?
Last season, the game took place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana and this season the game will be held at Chase Center in San Francisco, home of the Warriors. This will be the first time the game will head to Chase, which just opened in 2019. The game will be played on Sunday, February 16th, 2025 and it will be the 74th installment.
What future all-star game locations have been announced?
At this time, only the 2026 and 2027 all-star game sites have been announced The 2026 game will take place at the brand-new Intuit Dome in LA, the soon-to-be home of the Clippers. And the 2027 game will be in Phoenix’s Footprint Center which opened in 1992 and last hosted the game in 2009.
Predicting the location of future NBA all-star games
Beyond that, no dates have been announced but some logical choices in the near future could include Boston - the Celtics haven’t hosted the game since 1964, New York City - the Knicks seem to play host every 15 years or so and they’re due, and Las Vegas. Vegas hosted in 2007 and there is buzz about the city soon getting an expansion team.
The Nuggets are another team that could be hoping to host the game in the coming years. The game was last played in Pepsi Center in 2005 so the city is due for another chance to host one of the sport’s biggest weekends.
