After a gritty performance against Team USA in the semifinals, Nikola Jokic surpassed expectations in the Bronze Medal Match showing against Germany. The 3x NBA MVP recorded 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, along with a block and a steal.
Germany’s Franz Wagner and Mo Wagner added 18 points and 16 points, respectively, and Dennis Schroder added 13 points and six assists, but it wasn’t enough with Jokic playing out of his mind. His masterful game helped secure the bronze for the Serbians in an eventual 93-83 victory.
Jokic was stellar all tournament long and became the first basketball player in Olympic history to finish the tournament as the leader in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. While LeBron James was awarded the Men’s Basketball Olympics MVP award, an argument could have easily been made for the Joker.
Nuggets star Nikola Jokic named to Paris Olympics All-Star Five team
The 7-foot Serbian was named to the Paris 2024 Olympics’ FIBA All-Star Five, joined by LeBron James (United States), Steph Curry (United States), Victor Wembanyama (France), and Dennis Schroder (Germany).
All five players were different from the All-Star Five in the Tokyo Summer Olympics back in 2021 as well. Three years ago, it was Luka Doncic (Slovenia), Kevin Durant (United States), Rudy Gobert (France), Ricky Rubio (Spain), and Patty Mills (Australia).
In his Olympic career, Jokic now has a silver medal, a bronze medal, and the All-Star Five honors. He is still missing the coveted gold medal, but at age 29, it is likely that he will have a chance to add his third medal four years from now. The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, California during mid-late July.
Until then, Jokic and the Denver Nuggets will strive for their second NBA championship to add to his trophy case.
