Nuggets News: team adds 3 players from Summer League on training camp deals
By Ben Handler
Signing Russell Westbrook felt like the last big move of the offseason for the Denver Nuggets and that’s most likely the case. The team could still look to make a trade, or some other move on the margins, but for the most part it feels like the roster is mostly set for training camp.
However, the team still needs to add players for training camp; guys who will look to contribute in the preseason and fight for a role on the team, in the G-League, or elsewhere in the wide world of professional basketball.
Shortly after finalizing the deal with Westbrook, the team wasted no time in doubling back and adding players on training camp contracts. The Nuggets reached out and got deals done with three separate players who appeared on the Summer League squad.
Nuggets sign Jaylin Williams to training camp contract
Denver added the swingman who was an elite role player in college for Auburn last season. Williams brings defense and energy, with great fundamentals and effort. He has a great basketball IQ and just contributes to winning everywhere he goes. He’s not a great shooter or scorer, but he may be able to impact the game in other ways.
Nuggets sign Jahmir Young to training camp contract
Young was a star point guard last season at Maryland and had some nice moments in the Summer League. The Nuggets are short on guards and ballhandlers so if Young can make some waves in training camp there is serious opportunity on the Nuggets roster. This is especially the case after the lackluster performance of Jalen Pickett; Young could be coming for his job.
Nuggets sign Gabe McGlothan to training camp contract
McGlothan has some intrigue as an athletic forward out of Grand Canyon. He’s a little undersized but can make up for it with some of his burst. There are some similarities in his game to Aaron Gordon, so perhaps he can learn from AG and grow his game. McGlothan made headlines in college for winning the dunk contest in impressive fashion.
