We’ve reached the point where most of the Nuggets’ players are already in town for training camp as the NBA preseason is just weeks away. It’ll be a familiar Nuggets team because Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Michael Porter Jr. have been fixtures for years along with head coach Michael Malone.

But beyond that, the entire team is largely unfamiliar, made up of young players who are 23 and under or veteran journeymen who are new to Denver. Russell Westbrook and Dario Saric have at least been around the league for many years and many NBA fans are probably familiar with them at this point.

The young players are mostly unknown, however. Christian Braun and Peyton Watson have had some moments, but they’re both just entering their third year in the league. It’s easy to forget just how young the players actually are.

Nuggets players share the best meals they can make

But we got a nice, lighthearted reminder recently as the Nuggets’ official team Twitter account posted a video interviewing several of the young players at camp and asking them to name the best meal they can make. The answers were both hilarious and a bit enlightening.

Two-way player P.J. Hall expressed a decent bit of confidence, saying he can make a nice steak and would pair a filet with some broccoli and rice. Hunter Tyson also sounded sure of himself, offering up his chicken teriyaki stir fry. Spencer Jones said he can a “pretty nasty” carbonara.

Julian Strawther, DaRon Holmes II, and Peyton Watson clearly stole the show in this short film though, and they did so with their lack of confidence. All three players appeared almost stumped by the questions and had to do some serious thinking.

Strawther replied the fastest, saying that he can’t really cook so his answer was “probably like some noodles or something”. Holmes eventually thought of his own specialty with the revelation “I make cookies” and then specifying that he meant “the ones you put in the oven”.

Watson’s answer was even better still. He took a very long time to respond, appearing lost in thought before finally, hesitantly replying “peanut butter and jelly” as he laughed and flashed a thumbs up to the camera before walking away.

The Nuggets' roster is littered with youth and inexperience

This short, funny video is a good reminder that many of the players who will be relied upon for major contributions are still very young men. Watson, Strawther, Holmes, and Hall are just 22 years old, while the others aren’t much older.

The NBA lifestyle may never lead some players to be gourmet chefs and that’s obviously not the point. But it is interesting to think about the overall inexperience all over this roster and wonder if it may ultimately be the Nuggets’ undoing this season. Luckily for fans, we know that most of these players can play basketball a lot better than they can cook.
