Potential International lineup for Team USA vs World future All-Star Game format
By Ben Handler
Backup Forward: Domantas Sabonis, Lithuania
Domas has quietly been one of the best and most consistent offensive players in the NBA this season. He’s putting up 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game on the year. He leads the league in rebounding and he’s sixth in assists.
Not only does Sabonis lead the NBA with 24 triple-doubles this season, but he’s also currently tied with Kevin Love for the longest consecutive streak of double-doubles in NBA history with 52. He can set the record on Monday night against the 76ers.
Sabonis would be a Swiss army knife for this team as he could slash and rim-run, bouncing around setting ferocious screens for his teammates and crashing the offensive glass for second chances. His playmaking and scoring would almost be an added bonus for this squad with all the surrounding talent.
The knocks on Sabonis have always been his defense and lack of shooting. But he’d be asked to do less than ever on the defensive end, surrounded by a perfect complement of talent to hide his deficiencies.
And his lack of floor spacing would be neutralized by the shooting and playmaking all around him. Playing too far off Sabonis would give him an open avenue to operate as a short roller, create open looks for others, and attack the basket with a head of steam.
