5) Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns had one of the most underrated seasons in basketball. The 2015 No. 1 overall pick maintained his reputation as one of the most skilled bigs in the NBA.
Across 62 contests, Towns averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 boards. He sank 50.4% of his shot attempts and knocked down 41.6% of his 3-pointers. Towns also drilled 87.3% of his free throw attempts.
In February, Towns exploded for 50 points in the All-Star Game. His 23-of-35 shooting night was not enough to win the game, but Towns made quite the statement in his fourth career All-Star showing. The former All-NBA big man had a torn meniscus surgery in the latter part of the season, but he looked as good as ever in the first round against Phoenix.
KAT shot 52.9% from deep against the Suns, joining forces with Gobert to dominate Phoenix’s frontcourt. Towns dropped 19.3 points per game and pulled down 9.5 rebounds per game. He closed out the sweep by scoring 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
Towns had never won a playoff series in three previous tries, so the 28-year-old still has more to prove when it comes to his postseason pedigree. If the Timberwolves want to take down the defending champs, they will need Towns to bring his absolute best.
