Ranking Nuggets players' chances to join highly exclusive NBA inner circle

The Nuggets have never had a player achieve the prestigious 50/40/90 marks… yet.

Kevin Durant was the latest player to shoot 50%+ on field goals, 40%+ on three pointers, and 90%+ at the free throw line in the same season. This was Durant's 2nd season of 50/40/90 after initially joining the club back in 2012-13. His latest feat was back in 2022-23 however, so the NBA is definitely due for another player to join the club… perhaps this time coming from the Mile High City.

While a Denver Nugget has never hit those marks all in the same season, there have been a couple of players who have gotten close, most notably, their 7’0” multi-time MVP. Nikola Jokic has flirted with the club in three separate seasons, first in 2017-18 when he had shooting splits of 49.9/39.6/85.0. Additionally, he was close in 2020-21 (56.6/38.8/86.8) and last year (57.6/41.7/80.0).

In addition to the big fella, Nuggets superstar guard Jamal Murray has also gotten relatively close to the club. Prior to his ACL injury in 2020-21, the Blue Arrow was incredibly efficient, shooting 47.7% from the field, 40.8% from beyond the arc, and 86.9% from the FT line. Furthermore, in each of the last two seasons, Murray has been in the mix as well.

The stars aren’t the only players for Denver that have a chance at joining the prestigious club this upcoming season either.

Ranking the 50/40/90 Club Candidates for the Nuggets in 2025-26

1. Nikola Jokic - As mentioned above, the Joker has already been in the mix of the 50/40/90 club multiple times. At this point in his career, he is a lock to be at 50%+ FG, and with the new “heave” rules in the NBA, he should be in a great spot for 3FG% too. It will all come down to the FT% for Big Honey.

2. Jamal Murray - Unsurprisingly, Murray should have the 2nd best odds. He’s hit 90%+ FTs once in his career already and was at 88.6% from the charity stripe last year. He’s also had two separate seasons shooting 40% on threes. For the PG, the hardest mark to hit will be the FG%.

3. Aaron Gordon - Please welcome in Mr. Nugget! Gordon had a career year from deep last season, shooting 43.6% from beyond the arc to go along with shooting 53.1% from the field. His FT% was a bit lower at 81.0%, however Gordon did raise this to 86.0% in his 14 playoff games. Much like Jokic, the free throws are the biggest obstacle.

4. Cam Johnson - A change of scenery for Johnson could do wonders for him. While most 50/40/90 club candidates are superstars, there is the occasional Malcom Brogdon member, which Johnson could replicate. Last season, he had very efficient splits of 47.5/39.0/89.3, and the quality of shots he is about to get in Denver should boost up those numbers even more.

Denver’s biggest goal this upcoming season is obviously another championship, so personal accolades aren’t a priority, but it would be very cool to see a Nugget etch their name into 50/40/90 Club history.
