Trevon Brazile has a clear path to instant minutes after summer league statement

The Denver Nuggets appear to have found a diamond in the rough in second-round draft pick Trevon Brazile. Brazile has been tremendous at summer league, imposing his will on games as a scorer and showcasing abilities that suggest he's ready to play a complementary role.

For a Nuggets team in need of athleticism and shooting, it's becoming easy to envision a scenario in which Brazile is playing double-digit minutes from the opening tip of the 2026-27 season.

Brazile has been nothing short of magnificent at summer league. He's not only proven to be more ready to compete for a spot in an NBA rotation than his second-round selection would imply, but has showcased true two-way proficiency.

That includes a 32-point performance in which Brazile was spacing the floor, playing above the rim, and finding holes in the Oklahoma City Thunder's defense with advanced precision.

He's also been making his presence felt on the defensive end of the floor, with a continuation of his stellar 2025-26 collegiate campaign taking the shape of shot-blocking heroics.

In the process, Brazile has made it clear that he has the physical attributes and skill set to make an instant impact on a Nuggets team that lacks ideal interior depth.

The book on Denver is the same as it's been throughout the Nikola Jokic era. The Nuggets have an elite starting lineup with multiple stars and a full cast of high-level players, but depth is a question mark they haven't yet addressed—particularly along the interior.

If the 2026-27 regular season were to begin today, Denver's backup big men would be Marvin Bagley III, Brazille, DaRon Holmes II, and Zeke Nnaji. There's promise, but nothing in the way of proven consistency.

Re-signing Spencer Jones would create a stronger sense of stability at the forward positions, which may yet come to pass. Brazille has the size and versatility, however, to potentially back Jokic up in fast-paced lineups and play alongside either he or another center as a 4.

If Brazile can translate the skills he's showcased during summer league to training camp, then it'd be easy to envision a scenario in which he's a part of the opening night rotation.

Brazile stands at 6'9.75" without shoes and boasts an impressive 7'3.75" wingspan and 9'1" standing reach. He also posted an absurd 41.5" max vertical leap at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, which he's already put to use for several highlight-reel plays at summer league.

That game-breaking athleticism could take a significant degree of pressure off of starting forward Aaron Gordon by providing Denver with another lob threat and athletic frontcourt finisher.

The big question for Brazile is whether or not he can consistently knock down three-point field goals. He's certainly looked capable at summer league, where he's shot 47.4 percent through three games. That's a small sample size in a unique environment, however, which leaves room for doubt.

Brazile erases some degree of the concerns through context, however, as he shot 35.1 percent on 328 attempts from beyond the arc during his five-year collegiate career.

Furthermore, Brazile's defensive acumen is one of the primary reasons he was on big boards. He averaged 7.4 defensive rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.9 steals per 40 minutes in 2025-26, and has the athleticism, length, and film to suggest he can translate his success to the NBA.

It's unclear if Brazile will score with this prolific volume in the NBA, but he's certainly earning consideration for an instant role once his Nuggets career formally begins.
