Disappointing news out of Denver today as multiple news organizations are reporting that Denver Nuggets star point guard Ty Lawson was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI last night.

According to a report from Denver’s 9News, Lawson was arrested just after 1 a.m. after “reportedly going 60 mph in a 35 mph zone:”

"“The arresting officer claimed Lawson’s speech was slurred, breath had a strong odor of alcohol, he was swaying and his eyes were bloodshot. He consented to a field sobriety test, which he failed according to the officer. He refused a chemical test. After being taken to DDC DUI Room, Lawson reportedly admitted to an officer that he had a previous DUI in Missouri. Lawson was cited for speeding, DUI and careless driving.”"

The Denver Post’s Chris Dempsey pointed out that Lawson had participated in a team bowling event last night, and that his status for tonight’s game against the Boston Celtics is up in the air:

This is rough news for the Nuggets as Lawson is not only one of the most visible leaders on the team, but also one of the faces the franchise pushes forward in a variety of marketing and community outreach materials. It’s not our place to speculate on Lawson’s personal life, but we’ll keep an eye on the situation to see what, if any, impact this has on the Nuggets and their on-court performance.
