Denver got their teeth kicked in on the road in San Antonio

Denver was unable to overcome the Spurs powerhouse. They kept up with them in the first half where they only trailed by a score of 56-50.

The third quarter is where everything started to go downhill. The Nuggets’ only scored a pathetic 7 points in the entire third quarter which gave San Antonio the momentum. As a result, the “garbage time,” players from both squads got to see time in the fourth quarter.

Emmanuel Mudiay left with an apparent injury at one point in the game as Tony Parker just seemed to have his number all night. Denver’s defense let Manu Ginobli wind back the clock and look like the crafty Manu in his prime once again. Nikola Jokic did not repeat his performance from the last game when got a triple-double, which was caused to some much un-needed foul trouble.

His one rebound performance certainly did not benefit Denver in this game. However, the 121-97 final score was most definitely not his entire fault. When you get a triple-double coming off a hip injury, I would think you are allowed to have at least one bad night.

The team looked gassed coming out of halftime. Coach Malone didn’t seem to make the necessary adjustments either, as Gregg Popovich got a check mate in the head to head coaching battle. Despite a relatively pedestrian performance by Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs’ role players looked as if they didn’t need a star to carry them. As eluded to earlier, Parker and Ginobli looked as if they were in their championship days again.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets just could not find a player to step up and carry the load in this game.

Unfortunately, nights like these are bound to happen to every team to be honest, and it was Denver’s turn to be knocked down a couple pegs.
