Despite missing the playoffs, Denver fans should look at the bigger picture.

I will admit, it was a tough pill to swallow seeing the Denver Nuggets get knocked out of the playoff picture at the end of the regular season. I was bitter about it for a couple of days, but then I realized it could be a lot worse.

Especially after seeing the Portland Trail Blazers getting demolished by the Golden State Warriors in this first round, oh yeah I’m going to say it now, have a happy summer Nurkic. (Yes I went there and no I am not sorry).

Denver fans, who should still want to see this team in the post season in the near future, should actually look on the bright side of missing the playoffs this year. It saved them an embarrassment of having to go through a potential sweep in the first round at the hands of the Warriors.

The real kicker is that this year’s draft class is loaded with talent. Obviously the Nuggets will not get a top five pick, but that does not mean they can’t get a steal in the first round. Hell, think about the great players who weren’t top five picks or were not even selected in the first round.

The most recent feel good story of that situation is Boston’s Isiah Thomas. Let’s not forget other future hall of famers such as Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, and Kawhi Leonard. Man, do the Spurs know how to draft talent. Getting back on topic though, the Nuggets have been great in the draft ever since GM Tim Connelly took over.

With that in mind, Denver fans need not fret. He will make sure to draft the player that will fit this team the best and also help some of the team’s needs (*cough, rim protection, *cough,*cough, defense). This year’s draft has players who can help speed the development of a franchise, players that will be selected mid to late first round will even be able to do this.

This is about where the Nuggets are selected to pick.

All in all, as great as it would have been to see Denver sneak into the playoffs, just remember that we are going to be better off in the long run than Portland will be.
