The Denver Nuggets are looking at new guards and are reportedly in “advanced talks” to sign All-EuroLeage Second Team player Brad Wanamaker.

According to a report from Eurohoops.net, the Denver Nuggets are in advanced talks to acquire point guard Brad Wanamaker. Wanamaker has spent the last six seasons playing basketball overseas after going undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2011:

"Brad Wanamaker is in advanced talks with the Denver Nuggets, according to Eurohoops sources. The 28-year-old American combo guard was one of the elite players in last season’s EuroLeague averaging 16.7 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game with David Blatt’s Darussafaka Dogus. He was also named in the All-EuroLeague Second Team.-Nikos Varlas"

Wanamaker is listed as a combo guard and has the ability to play both shooting and point guard.

The signing of Wanamaker would be a little odd as Denver already have three point guards on the roster and that’s excluding recently drafted second-round pick Monte Morris. Even if they were looking at Wanamaker as a shooting guard, that position is still three deep on the roster with Gary Harris, Will Barton and Malik Beasley.

The signing of Wanamaker would clearly indicate that more moves are coming. There’s no feeling of what kind of contract it would take to get Wanamaker or if he would just be joining the team on a tryout basis for Nuggets training camp. If Wanamaker were signed, he would more than likely be taking the place of either Jameer Nelson or Emmanuel Mudiay.

Wanamaker is just another one of the many point guards Denver have already been linked to this summer. First, there was the report on draft night of the Nuggets possibly giving up Emmanuel Mudiay and the 13th pick to acquire Eric Bledsoe from the Phoenix Suns. Then the team was linked this past week to free agent George Hill until he recently signed a three-year $57 Million deal with the Sacramento Kings.

According to Basketball.Eurobasket.com, Wanamaker is listed as 6’4” and would bring nice size to the Nuggets perimeter. Denver obviously feels the need to upgrade their perimeter defense this offseason and they’re weighing all the possible options to help fix that.

With the recent success Tim Connolly and Arturus Karnisovas have had at getting international players their should be no questioning the move until we see what Wanamaker can really do if Denver do indeed sign him.
