Pau Gasol would be a great backup center for Nuggets

Even though it is highly unlikely to happen, Pau Gasol would be an ideal backup center for the Denver Nuggets.

The Denver Nuggets have a gap at the center position. Denver may have the likes of Nikola Jokic, but they have yet to offer Mason Plumlee a contract and have yet to show any interest in any other centers thus far in free agency.

With this in mind, Denver should at least consider trying to get Pau Gasol to come to the Mile High. It would be tough though. First of all, Denver would have to convince a future hall of famer who has been a starter his whole career to come off the bench for a young star in Nikola Jokic. Second of all, Gasol may demand too much money in order to come play for a team like Denver, especially when you take into account he is a two time champion.

Both teams he has played for previously are rich in championship pedigree, San Antonio and Chicago.

Therefore, it is safe to say it would take a lot to convince Gasol to come to Denver. However, Denver could still surprise a few folks. Over the past couple of off seasons, the Nuggets have drawn interests from stars including successfully landing Paul Millsap.

While Gasol may not exactly be a star anymore, he can still be a valuable play maker for a team. Imagine replacing Jokic when he needs rest with another great passing big man like Gasol. Gasol would be a great fit for the Nuggets and if the front office plays their cards right, they could potentially land him for a backup center.

It would take a lot of convincing, but it would provide the team with some veteran and championship experience.

Next: Millsap's post play

Gasol would be great coming off the bench, forming a deep front court rotation with Jokic and Millsap.
