OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

It wasn’t that long ago that the Nuggets were mentioned in rumors that had them pursuing Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Reggie Jackson. Specific details of the trade never became public, so it’s hard to understand exactly what the Nuggets were offering and where they felt Jackson fit into their plans. Since he has a contract that expires at the end of this season, it’s possible Denver was hoping to grab him to serve as part of a bigger trade down the road, but there’s no way to know for sure.

If you look at the Thunder’s roster, though, the idea of OKC adding Afflalo as part of a deal for Jackson could make sense for both teams. The Thunder would likely have to give up Anthony Morrow and Perry Jones to make the deal work, but Afflalo would give them a nice boost as they head into post-season play. For the Nuggets, signing Jackson after the season could be tough, especially if they keep Ty Lawson in town, but he might be a nice option at point guard if they find a landing place for Lawson before the trade deadline. Morrow was a name they were rumored to be interested in this past offseason, so he could fit into their mid- to long-term plans, and Jones is only due $2 million next season before his deal expires, so he wouldn’t count much against the cap.

The Clippers are probably the most likely trade partner for Afflalo, but I have to admit I’m most intrigued by a potential deal with OKC that involves Jackson and Morrow.

The trade deadline is only a few days away, so it won’t be long before we know where Afflalo ends up, if the Nuggets decided to pull the trigger on a deal.
