2015 NBA Draft: Potential Targets For The Nuggets
By Chris Krug
The 2015 NBA draft is fast approaching and that means it’s time to look at potential players that might be rocking the yellow and blue jerseys next season. At the moment, the Denver Nuggets are at the eighth spot in the draft. Of course, that can change with 13 games left on the schedule, and with the lottery selection on May 19th.
Mario Hezonja would be the ideal pick for Denver. He has everything you want in a player. He has huge upside, he’s athletic, and he runs very well in the fast break and in transition, which is a great quality to have when you play for the Nuggets.
Denver needs to find a solid scorer and with Mario, they would have that player. We haven’t seen much of Gary Harris this season, and with Randy Foye turning 32 this year, Denver needs to help fortify the shooting guard position. With time, Hezonja could become the go-to guy for the Nuggets in clutch situations, and just as a pure scorer.
Kristaps Porzingis has great size and an amazing skill combination for a power forward. He has good speed and he excels in transition situations. Just like Mario, he has great potential, and he would be able to make a huge impact once he’s on the court.
With Faried signed to a long-term contract, this pick wouldn’t be as ideal as the Hezonja pick. However, Porzingis is a talent you don’t see very often. He has great shooting range and he would be able to help stretch the floor for Denver. The only downfall is that he would need to bulk up in the NBA. If he fell to Denver, it would be hard to pass up that kind of talent.
Willie Cauley-Stein has great hands for a center, and shows potential as an elite blocker in the NBA. He would be a project for any team, to help work on his jump shot and inside scoring.
If Mario Hezonja and Kristaps Porzingis are off the board by the time the Nuggets pick, then Cauley-Stein would be a smart pick by Denver. He could be a great backup for Jusuf Nurkic next season. He could come off the bench and provide a shot of energy to the defense and offense.
If the Nuggets land any of these three players discussed above, they would have a young prospect that could end up being the star that the team has been looking for since Carmelo Anthony left.
