The Denver Nuggets are on the way back to relevance in the Western Conference, however, they will have to start from the bottom and work their way up. They key of the rebuild moving forward appears to be talented rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay.

Mudiay looked great in Summer League, giving Nuggets fans high hopes. According to Rappler.com, Kenneth Faried has ‘high expectations’ for Mudiay.

“I have high expectations for him because he’s basically going to be our starting point guard and the Nuggets have high expectations,” said Faried. “I just want to make sure he’s coached – that’s the only thing I want to make sure. I’m pretty sure he is and everybody says he is so I’m excited to see what happens.”

There should be aspects of the game where Mudiay can come in and look good from the get go. Namely, getting the rim and playing well in transition. Where rookie point guard often need to improve is learning the pace of the game, finishing around bigger players and making good decisions on defense.

Mudiay also needs to improve his jump shot significantly, shown in this breakdown. Emmanuel Mudiay should be judged on how he looks rather than his numbers. If he can show flashes of brilliance, the consistency should come with time.
