The D-Wade Effect

Where his impact may be felt most is in the 2017-2016 off-season, where Steph Curry, Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook headline a star-studded free agency class. In an interview with Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post, Nuggets Governor Josh Kroenke said, “We’ve known this was coming for the NBA for a long time. I hope our fans aren’t shocked by the money being thrown around. But it probably makes more sense for us to go big next summer.” Additionally, Kroenke stated, “I don’t want to go back to the playoffs until we have a team ready to advance in the playoffs”.

Nuggets management has been hesitant to make a significant move. With the assets they have been able to amass, as well as the development of younger players, the Nuggets will be knocking on the door of the playoffs in the near future.

According to Baskteball Insiders, the salary cap in the 2017-2018 season will be $102 million. After adding in Darrell Arthur’s new contract as well as the 2-3 rookie contracts, the Nuggets will have close to $35-40 million in cap room. Additionally, they will still have flexible veteran contracts such as Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, Will Barton, and now Darrell Arthur which could further extend their cap room.
