Analysis: Denver Nuggets Summer League Grades

Jimmer Fredette = B+
While many people feel like the clock is ticking down on Jimmer Fredette‘s NBA dream, the Denver Nuggets wanted to get an up-close look at the former BYU standout and brought him to this year’s Las Vegas Summer League. As one of the older players in Las Vegas, Fredette has more NBA experience than the majority of the rest of the players fighting for a roster spot in Vegas — and it showed.

After coming off the bench for just 17 minutes of action against Minnesota in the opener, Fredette started the summer Nuggets’ final four games. Fredette averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game as a starter. He also splashed 39% of his shots from deep over the last four games — the highest percentage of any player on the roster. Fredette exhibited an improved pick-and-roll game throughout Summer League play, too.
As has been the case his entire career, Fredette’s athleticism and defense still leave a bit to be desired, but his showing in Sin City was impressive on the whole.
Did Jimmer do enough to crack the Nuggets crowded backcourt? I’m not so sure, however, I believe he performed well enough to earn a training camp invite from another NBA team.
