Ralph Simpson started his career playing for the Denver Rockets in the ABA. He was a three-time all ABA performer and an ABA all-star with the Denver Rockets. When the Nuggets went to the NBA, Simpson came with them. Simpson was then traded to the Pistons in 1976, but traded back to Denver in 1978. Simpson’s best years were not in the NBA however, he made a name for himself playing in the ABA for the Denver Rockets.

Simpson during his finest season in the ABA averaged 27.4 points with 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. His career numbers in the ABA neared 20 points per game along with 4 assists and 4 rebounds. In terms of ABA history, Simpson finished 13th in points, 10th in points per game, and 16th in total assists. Simpson was a very efficient scored but never really found his three point shot.
In terms of franchise history, Simpson ranks in the top 10 in almost every major offensive category. These include 5th in points, 8th in assists, 9th in points per game, and 8th in steals per game. Simpson was an all around player for the Denver Rockets that is still a prevalent figure in the Nuggets history as a franchise. He might not be as well known as some other Nuggets players, but Simpson is absolutely one of the best shooting guards in their history.
