On their media day, the Denver Nuggets announced that they will retire Dikembe Mutombo’s number at half of their home opener.

Dikembe Mutombo, who is often known for his finger wag, just last year was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame.

This is a great accomplishment for this legendary center, who holds the Denver Nuggets all-time record for blocks.

Mutombo was only in Denver for a short five season, but he did manage to average 3.0 or more blocks per season each year. His last year in Denver, he averaged 4.5 blocks per game. After that season, he would cement the rest of his career mainly with the Rockets and Hawks.

The Denver Nuggets will be retiring Mutombo’s #55. This will be able to hang with English, Issel, Thompson, and Beck in the Pepsi Center rafters.

According to Bleacher Report, Mutombo was the seventh Nuggets to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Even Emmanuel Mudiay, who is only a couple years over 18, is a fan of Mutombo’s prolific blocking ability.

The Nuggets will also be wearing some throwback rainbow skyline jerseys which was a common occurrence when Mutombo played for them.

It is great to see the team excited for Mutombo, and it will be great to see the season start of strong with this ceremony.
