Holmes’ hot take

There are several things that need to happen to decide which free agent the Nuggets need to pursue.

The first question for the Nuggets, does Danilo Gallinari opt out of his contract? There’s a strong chance he could, and if he does, the Nuggets may want to peruse the market for a small forward.

The next question, does Gordon Hayward opt out of his contract in Utah? If he wants to leave the Jazz, that’s my guy for the Nuggets to go after. While not the biggest superstar in the NBA, it would get them a star to pair along with Nikola Jokic.

Hayward is a lethal scorer, and has been clutch at times for the Jazz, something the Nuggets need in their arsenal.

If these circumstances do not happen, the Nuggets should go after Blake Griffin. They have the cap room, and that would be a terrifying post presence for the NBA with Griffin and Jokic.

While I believe that it wouldn’t hurt to look at point guards, I think that Jamal Murray needs to start at the one next year with Emmanuel Mudiay backing him up. There are other options that could be filled before reaching for the point guard, and plus, there’s always the draft. This year especially, because this draft is DEEP.

In my opinion, free agent priority number one is Gordon Hayward, and then Blake Griffin.
