In the midst of the NBA Playoffs, the Raptors were just swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers which leads one to question the future of Kyle Lowry.

Toronto’s superstar point guard, Kyle Lowry, sat out game four in order to rest an injured ankle. He suffered this injury in game two, and he was not in the roster for the final game of the series. This being said, Lowry has stated that he will be opting out of his contract this summer, and will become a free agent. Many people believe that he has played last game as a Toronto Raptor.

So why does Kyle want out of Toronto? He has stated that he wants a ring, and that the Raptors may not be able to get it for him. Teams that could accommodate this are teams such as the Spurs, Clippers, or even resigning with Toronto. The Clippers could be a good landing spot for him depending on where Chris Paul decides to go in the off-season. I don’t like his fit in San Antonio, as I do not believe they can give Lowry the money that he would want.

Even though he is leaving Toronto, he has been nothing short of spectacular for the Raptors. In fact, it seems that he has gotten better with age, as this season was the best of his career. He averaged 22.4 points, seven assists, and almost five rebounds per game (per basketball-reference). He did this while shooting 46 percent from the floor, and 42 percent from three.

Lowry is a bona fide veteran in the NBA now, as he will be entering his 12th season next year. He can be a star to whoever signs him, and a leader to help young players. He’s a floor general, who is deadly from three-point range as well. Really, Kyle Lowry has been an underrated point guard in the NBA for the past few seasons.

So what does all of this have to do with the Denver Nuggets?

Well, Kyle Lowry would be a great fit with Denver. I know a lot of fans like the young guards in Emmanuel Mudiay and Jamal Murray. Hear me out on this one, when I say that Lowry would be the difference in a playoff berth.

If Lowry is signed, then that slates a back-court of Lowry and Gary Harris. I don’t know about you, but I think that would be an incredible pair to watch. Not to mention, the Nuggets could drop Jameer Nelson, and continue to slowly build Mudiay and Murray. If you ask me, I’d rather have Kyle Lowry be mentoring these young guards than Nelson.

Now the Nuggets may not meet this immediate title contender that Lowry may be looking for, but they do have one thing. They have cap room, and they could have a lot of it this off-season. Lowry may just want a ring, but the Nuggets could possibly give him a max deal this off-season. Could he pass up that money and a chance to play with players like Nikola Jokic and Gary Harris? Time will only tell, but the Nuggets had better jump on this chance.
