The Denver Nuggets had a disappointing draft, but it may not have been entirely their fault.
By now, it is no secret that the Denver Nuggets had a relatively disappointing draft. They ended up trading for Trey Lyles and got Tyler Lyndon from Syracuse. The Nuggets then followed it up by drafting Vlatko Cancar who will be stashed overseas for the next year or two. They finally selected a decent point guard with the 51st pick by getting Monte Morris of Iowa State.
However, in the midst of all this draft frenzy, Tim Connelly was interviewed and was visibly frustrated. He made it clear that their was a blockbuster trade that he said was quote “on the yard line,” only for said team to back out last minute.

Connelly obviously was not allowed to say which team this might have been, but with the rumors that were going around during this time, one could probably guess which team it may have been.
Denver was in trade rumors with the Chicago Bulls for a trade that would’ve sent Jimmy Butler to the Nuggets, which was followed up by “fluid,” talks about Eric Bledsoe. Denver was reportedly trying to get Bledsoe from Phoenix by sending the Suns Emmanuel Mudiay and the 13th pick.
Now, the division rival Minnesota Timberwolves have a big three in Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony Towns, while the Nuggets are left with a questionable draft. Now, if they want to get to the post season, they MUST make a big splash in free agency.
Luckily, they have a lot of cap space, but they must use it wisely.
