Nuggets’ draft grade: C-
I would be lying if I said I was not tempted to give the Denver Nuggets a D grade after this draft. However, with Connelly being visibly frustrated about an un-named team backing out on a blockbuster trade last minute, I had to spare a little slack. Just a little bit though.
Denver still completely ignored their glaring weakness in this draft. That weakness of course being defense. They managed to trade for Trey Lyles after selecting who is still young and ended up with Tyler Lydon who is a stretch four from Syracuse. They took Donovan Mitchell with the 13th pick, a shooting guard they did not need, who ended up being traded to Utah in the Lyles trade.

However, none of these players solve their defensive issues. The important thing to remember as Nugget fans is that the Nuggets have had a stellar draft the last couple of years, so a draft like this was bound to occur eventually. In other words, no one is perfect.
Their best pick of the night occurred at the 51st pick when Monte Morris slid into their laps. Morris is a solid point guard who will help remedy the team’s turnover issue and will probably give Emmanuel Mudiay a run for his money when it comes to his future in Denver.
And, of course they did select an international player with one of their picks as well. Vltako Cancar will be stashed overseas for the next couple of years it would seem.
With all of this in mind, Denver gets a C- from me after this draft.
