Trey Lyles could have a different use.
Trey Lyles is still a young power forward in today’s NBA. He is the Nuggets’ newest trade acquisition and it is a trade that has many fans scratching their heads.
Lyles doesn’t have a stellar stat line, but he is versatile enough to play both the four and five positions. However, with the addition of Tyler Lydon, there is a possibility that could be in play. The Nuggets could be stocking up for a big time trade in free agency.

They were close to landing a star in the draft if what Tim Connelly said has any indications, so it would make sense if they are stocking up and using Lyles for trade bait for potential suitors. A team like the Atlanta Hawks who seem to be commencing into a rebuild process and may be willing to conduct a sign and trade for Paul Millsap.
Of course, there are other teams out there who may be willing to negotiate with Denver as well. Phoenix was reportedly in talks with Denver about a potential Eric Bledsoe trade, so a possibility like this could be potentially re-visited.
Or, maybe the Nuggets do have plans on utilizing Trey Lyles. However, with a trade as puzzling as this one, it is worth wondering if there is a larger plan at stake here.
The free agency period is around the corner and Nuggets Nation will find out soon enough.
