Paul Millsap is the priority, but the Denver Nuggets are reportedly still “very interested” in re-signing Danilo Gallinari in NBA free agency as well.

Even though Danilo Gallinari is going to have a host of teams interested in him as he tests the market in NBA free agency (remember, he’s hoping for “Chandler Parsons-type money”), there still seems to be a decent chance that he could re-sign with the Denver Nuggets.

According to USA Today Sports’ Sam Amick, Gallinari is still “very much in play.”

Also, on ESPN’s NBA free agency show, Adrian Wojnarowski shared that the Nuggets remain “very interested in bringing back Gallinari” (h/t Adam Mares of Denver Stiffs).

Paul Millsap teaming up with Nikola Jokic is an exciting enough thought by itself. Millsap’s ability to create with drives, get to the free throw line and move the ball effectively is ideal, while his stellar defense and versatility is a perfect match for the slow-footed Jokic. Throw Gallinari into the mix at small forward next to those two or as a great floor-spacing, offensive power forward in some lineups, and the Nuggets’ frontcourt rotation would be among the most skilled in the league.

They need to clear some room, though. The roster is loaded with fours and combo forwards that can play there already.

A sign-and-trade with the Atlanta Hawks for Millsap could help in this regard, potentially sending Kenneth Faried and another piece away in order to clear up the depth chart and free some cap space (something that would help create room to possibly re-sign Gallinari). Denver can always pursue other trades to move a salary or power forward if need be, to.

As we keep waiting on Millsap’s decision, though, we can’t jump to any conclusions about Gallinari, either. Nine teams are interested in him (per Sam Amick) and he’ll take his time to weigh up the possibility of returning to Denver or leaving for big money elsewhere, so this could take a couple more days to develop.
