Denver Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay has a lot to work on, and has switched up his summer training to join his teammates this year.

Denver Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay has a lot of work to do this offseason. He hardly showed much improvement in his second year in the NBA, his minutes fell, and he frequently sat out and dropped from the rotation over the last few months of the season.

Well, maybe changing up his offseason training can help Mudiay out a bit.

CBS Sports’ Matt Moore has mentioned that Mudiay has been training in Denver and Las Vegas with some of his Nuggets teammates, rather than training alone.

Building up better relationships and chemistry with teammates is always good for anyone, including Mudiay. Sure, it’s only summer training and it’s not going to transform his game, but hopefully it helps him somewhat and perhaps, even though it’s probably wishful thinking, he can take some steps forward with his game and maybe return in October with a slightly better jumper.

Out of 163 players who averaged at least 25 minutes per game last season, Mudiay ranked 74th in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.76 and ranked a worrisome 159th in True Shooting Percentage at 48.3, per NBA.com. In simpler terms, he shot 31.5 percent from three-point range with only 56 makes for the season and shot 37.7 percent from the floor overall. His field goal percentage only increased by 1.3 from his rookie season, despite having the extra experience under his belt and reducing his attempts per game from 13.3 to 10.

None of this is good at all for a point guard approaching his third season. On a more positive note, though, at least he’s still only 21 years old. The age helps and he’s not finished yet. After all, it’s tough for point guards to develop in the NBA.

Even still, Mudiay hasn’t progressed enough to the point where his future is that encouraging. Hopefully for the Nuggets, another year of experience and playing off the passing of both Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap will help Mudiay show more promise in 2017-18.
