Nuggets must be cautious in pursuing a trade for Kyrie Irving
By Mathew Huff
The Denver Nuggets are reportedly interested in trading for Kyrie Irving, but they must beware of the steep price the Cleveland Cavaliers may ask for in return.
While the thought of Kyrie Irving forming a big three for the Nuggets is intriguing, the Nuggets’ front office must approach this situation cautiously. I still believe it will not happen, but then again, I have been wrong before. If the Nuggets are dead set on landing Kyrie, then they must analyze the cross benefit analysis.
Will he be worth the asking price? If the Cavs want us to gut the core made up of solid role players, will it burn the team in the long run? Both questions must be looked at closely before pulling the trigger.

If you want to see an example of a similar situation in the past, look no further than Denver themselves. Remember when Carmelo Anthony was traded? Yes, at first, both the Nuggets and Knicks looked as if they benefited. In today’s NBA landscape, it looks like the Nuggets are actually better off and were the winners of the trade. New York gave up a nice core which consisted of players like Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler to get the likes of Carmelo Anthony.
With this Kyrie Irving situation, Denver would be in New York’s role. Cleveland would want a lot to begin with and rightfully so, but they also may want Gary Harris or Jamal Murray. Both of which have recently been labeled untouchable in terms of trades. However, the Cavs will drive a hard bargain and they know better than to ask for Nikola Jokic or Paul Millsap.
As a result, one of the two out of Murray and Harris will have to go in a trade. The question is, will Denver giving away one of them for Irving come back to bite them in the future?
