Why the Nuggets will not get Kyrie Irving

Denver’s weakest position right now is point guard. So, it’s certain that they will sacrifice a lot for Kyrie, right? I don’t think so, and here is why.

First, Cleveland will not likely trade Irving to Denver without Murray, Harris, or both included in the trade. According to BSN Denver and multiple other sources, Denver was not willing to trade Murray for Jimmy Butler.

If Denver won’t give up Murray for Butler, they surely won’t give him up for Kyrie Irving.

The Nuggets have also made it very clear that Gary Harris is part of their future. He represented them at the draft lottery, they’ve used him in meetings with free agents, and he plays perfectly with Nikola Jokic.

Next is the style of play. Most people agree that Kyrie could be a good fit if he buys into Denver’s offense. He’s used to playing with a point forward (LeBron). That is true, but according to Stephen A. Smith (theundefeated.com) that is why he wants out of Cleveland.

If Kyrie is not willing to play second to LeBron, he sure won’t be willing to play second to Nikola Jokic. Sure, Denver could make Kyrie the focal point of their offense. But, after having the number one offense in the league with Jokic in the starting lineup, they shouldn’t.

Paul Millsap is a perfect fit in Denver because he brings defense and wants to play Denver’s style. I don’t think Kyrie would bring either of those to Denver.

Kyrie is a great player but not a great fit. It is not wise for Denver to trade away their future to likely rent Kyrie Irving for two years.

Arguments can be made for Kyrie doing well in Denver. However, I think Nuggets management will think twice about going after the all star guard.
