We’ve gone over the Nuggets new white “association” jersey, but now lets get to the “icon” jersey.

The icon jersey is the biggest change in the Nuggets new uniforms as it features a new navy blue that the team will be using going forward. The navy blue takes the place of the baby blue that the Nuggets have used since the 2003 season. The baby blue isn’t completely gone though as it’s still in some parts of the uniform, but it certainly is overshadowed now by the navy.

The Nuggets have worn navy blue alternate uniforms in the past, but they have never been one of their main uniform colors. This jersey completes the set of the first two jerseys the Nuggets will start the season with until they reveal the other two uniforms at a later date during the season.

The nice part about the “icon” uniform is it’s a uniform that Nuggets fans will be able to see at Pepsi Center next season. With Nike and the NBA going away from road and home jerseys, Denver will have their choice of what jersey to wear when playing at home next season. With the navy uniform being the biggest uniform change so far I would expect them to play in the navy at home more then the “white” association jersey next year.

In our article on the Denver’s new “association” jersey we talked about the great technology that Nike has done with the uniforms, but there’s even more they’ve done to help performance. The jerseys have a sweat repellent feature that allows the jerseys to not get as sweaty and for them to thus be lighter. In Chris Dempsey’s article on the new jersey’s he got some great quotes from guard Gary Harris on the new uniforms.

"“I like the material,” Harris said. “The material is super light. That Nike material is going to absorb a lot of sweat. They’re just going to be fun to play in. -Chris Dempsey"

"“It’s more of the navy blue color, and I think that’s kind of cool because we had a lot of the baby blue,” Harris said. “I like them. I like the way they look, I like the way they feel.” -Chris Dempsey"

The new jerseys won’t be available for fans to purchase until September 29th, but are sure to sell like hot cakes. The two new jerseys do feature the Western Union sponsor patch that the Nuggets announced last week and will be the sponsor worn on all Nuggets uniforms. It’s not yet known if the jersey’s for purchase will just be ones with the patch on it, or if ones will be sold without the patch as well.

One thing’s for sure and that’s the Nuggets are starting a new era of basketball and that starts with these navy uniforms. New uniforms could help jump start a franchise and give them the confidence to accomplish something great. The Nuggets have that chance with such a young and talented roster and are hoping to compete with the best of the best in the Western Conference as early as next season.

What do you guys think of the new “icon” jersey? Which one of the jerseys will you guys want to get when they go on sale in a couple of months?
