Kyrie Irving has officially been traded to the Boston Celtics for Isiah Thomas which means Jamal Murray and Gary Harris are safe on the Nuggets for now.

The NBA off season continues to be crazy even in the dog days of August as Kyrie Irving has been traded to the Celtics for Isiah Thomas leaving Jamal Murray and Gary Harris safe on the Nuggets for now.

In my opinion, this is great for Denver because both players possess a tremendous amount of potential and getting rid of either one of them could have spelled disaster for the Nuggets long term.

While having a star like Kyrie Irving would have been nice, it would have only assisted the franchise’s short term goals and left them in a confusing situation if he left when his contract was up which would have Millsap’s last year of his contract as well.

This way, Murray and Harris can keep developing for Denver and the team will have a couple of young cornerstone pieces who will have terrific upside for longer than two years. Harris has improved every single season of his young career so far and Murray looks like he could be a once in a lifetime offensively gifted player.

Murray will be in the running for being the potential starting point guard this coming season and Harris will be expected to take the next big step in his development possibly making the jump to the star tier of the NBA ranks.

The Nuggets had plenty of assets to play with in a Kyrie trade, but at the end of the day, it is good they did not pull the trigger as they would have had to give up too many key assets for the star point guard.

The good news is Gary Harris and Jamal Murray can breathe a sigh of relief for now.
