Everyone knows how legendary Nuggets’ great, Alex English is, but many forget he was a former scoring champion.

Alex English is debatebly the greatest Denver Nuggets player of all time. However, people tend to overlook just how dominant he was and how many accomplishments he possesses. If I were to ask which Nuggets’ great was a former scoring champ, who would you guess? You may be tempted to say Carmelo Anthony, but do not forget he won his scoring title with the Knicks.

The correct answer is Alex English. In the 1982-83 season, English was nearly unstoppable when it came to scoring the rock. Per basketball-reference.com, he averaged an outstanding 28.4 points per game to go along with an effective field goal percentage of 51.7%. He also shot 51.6% from the field and 82.9% from the free throw line.

English always possessed great scoring prowess, but in the 82-83 season, he was on a whole new level when it came to offensive production. If these stats were not already impressive enough, English also held an offensive rating of 113 in this particular year. It is safe to make the comparison to Carmelo Anthony as they were/are very adapt at scoring the ball in a multitude of ways. As a matter of fact, I would say English was the first quote on quote “Carmelo Anthony,” as Melo’s scoring is sometimes reminiscent of English at times. Obviously they are not the same player, but English remains one of the best, yet underrated legends of all time to this day.

Not to mention, many seem to forget he was in fact the scoring champion in the 1982-83 season. With this fact in mind, why not take a moment to look back at some of the great moments he provided Nuggets Nation in that specific season?
