David Adelman will be coming over from the Orlando Magic to fill the void at their assistant coach position. If you are wondering why his last name sounds familiar, it is because his own father is high up in the NBA ranks. His father being the one and only Rick Adelman, who is considered one of the best NBA coaches in history.
Hopefully some of this great basketball blood was passed down to his son so the Nuggets can benefit from some of the expertise. It will certainly be interesting to see the dynamic that forms between head coach, Michael Malone and Adelman, especially since they have had some small connection during Malone’s Sacramento days where he was the head coach.
The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski which was somewhat of an unexpected Woj bomb for the Denver Nuggets’ fan base.
The Nuggets were one of the best offensive teams in the entire NBA last season, so it will be intriguing to see what David Adelman will bring to the table and see if he could possibly help their dismal defense.
Of course there is always the theory that the organization is using this hiring as a way to pay respect to the great Rick Adelman, but in today’s NBA, you will have a job if you are good at your job regardless of who you may be related to or know.
