Denver Nuggets: 50 point game, Nikola Jokic or Paul Millsap?

The season is under a month away for the Nuggets, and we couldn’t be more ecstatic, particularly for Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap.

With an improved roster in the works in the Mile High City, why wouldn’t we? Paul Millsap, the improvement of an already young roster, and the improvement of Nikola Jokic’s emergence are just a few things to look out for this season. Here’s another thing to look for, and it involves both of the members of the front-court. Who has more of a chance for a 50 point game, Nikola Jokic or Paul Millsap?

Both are very talented big men, with an offensive mind and the ability to stretch the floor. Jokic has the advantage when it comes to passing, but Millsap is a better defensive player. However, neither of those things are the edges the players are looking for when it comes to this stat. It ultimately comes down to a simple question, who is a better scorer?

When it comes down to comparing the two, there are a few aspects that can go around between the two. First up, the highest career total for a player is Millsap, as he has had 46 in a game compared to Jokic’s 40. According to RealGM, Millsap’s career high game came against the Miami Heat on November 11th, 2010. Nikola Jokic’s was 40 points against the New York Knicks a season ago. Advantage: Millsap

Nikola Jokic is still a budding superstar, who is flying under some people’s radars in the NBA. Paul Millsap is a proven, seasoned veteran who has been around and has played well in this league for a long time. For this reason, defenders could focus more so onto Millsap when it comes down to getting the ball. In this sense, Jokic’s passing could help him out here too, as players can’t put too much focus on him. Advantage: Jokic

In the end though, I believe that Jokic probably has the advantage over Millsap to get a fifty point game first. I think that the difference in focus that the two players could get in contrast to each other could play a major role in the decision. While Millsap has had more points in a game, Jokic also has played a much smaller amount of seasons.

I look for Jokic to become an absolute superstar in the NBA next season, and his game could be a major indicator of that.
