Mason Plumlee will be returning to the Nuggets this year, as he re-signed with the team.

Plumlee was a restricted free-agent, meaning they could have matched with any team that would have offered him anything. However with no deal being made with another team Plumlee will be back in the Mile High City this season. According to ESPN, he signed a three-year, $41 million deal with the team.

He will probably be used as a second-unit player, with the addition of Paul Millsap in the off-season. This is a role that could suit him very well, as he can come off of the bench and play the five in relief of Jokic. This was a move that needed to be made by the Nuggets as well, because without him they only had one listed center.

The move to acquire Plumlee last season was one that was met with a lot of hate from the fan base. The team gave up Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round draft pick for Plumlee, and many fans say Denver lost the deal. In my viewpoint, there really wasn’t a loser in the trade between the Nuggets and Portland. The Blazers got a big man who turned out to play a huge role for them, including a monster game against his former team. The Nuggets got a reliable bench player, and got rid of a bad part of their line-up. While Nurkic did, and still does have talent, the Nuggets needed to move him last year. The guy literally left the court during a game that he didn’t play much in, when he proved he didn’t deserve the starting role.

According to basketball-reference, Plumlee averaged about 9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also shot around 55 percent from the floor, while playing a little over 23 minutes a game. He will look to improve that stat-line as the Nuggets get ready to go to work.
