Due to a sophomore slump and explosive rookie, Jamal Murray, most Nuggets fans thought Mudiay’s starting PG days were behind him. I have also counted Mudiay out. Even when Michael Malone said at media day that starting point guard will be “a great competition” I still counted him out.

I assumed we already knew Murray would start with Nelson backing him up. However, no one told Mudiay.
According to Adam Mares of Denver Stiffs, Emmanuel Mudiay has been a stand out at training camp. Mares said he looks fit. He said that Mudiay apparently led the second team to a victory over Denver’s projected starting unit.
So, can Mudiay actually win the job? Why not? He’s only 21 years old and he has two good seasons behind him. When the young guard was drafted he was expected to become the face of the franchise. The fact that such talent fell to number seven in the draft was exciting. “It’s a New Day” was the slogan in Denver after his drafting.
He showed spurts of his potential in the latest preseason game where the Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors where he logged 19 points.

It’s not going to be easy, but Mudiay may still have a place on this Denver team. There is a long way to go in this point guard battle, but keep your eye on it. It’s going to be exciting.
