The Nuggets’ point guards are still having a hard time being good consistently this season.

While the Nuggets’ Jamal Murray has shown a ton of promise and Emmanuel Mudiay started off well, they are still inconsistent. The point guard play of Denver is one area which has raised some concern.

More from Nugg Love

Remember, Murray came into the league as a two guard, so he is learning a new position. Emmanuel Mudiay has always been inconsistent and despite his success off the bench, he is still not the answer at the point.

With the Nuggets cutting ties with Jameer Nelson, these are the only two point guards they possess now. So, will the point guard play get better or do they need to make a trade?

Well, only time will tell. If Murray can start stringing solid performances on a consistent basis, Denver will be fine. However, if he continues to have these growing pains, then they need to look to make a trade.

I personally thought the Nuggets should have traded for Eric Bledsoe earlier in the year. Not just to create a big three and make up for the inconsistencies at the point. But, also to make up for key injuries like Denver now has with Paul Millsap out indefinitely.

Nikola Jokic plays well with a good point guard and when they are on, his production is even better than usual. It allows him to utilize his skill set in pick and pop situations and allows him to see the court for cutters to the rim. It is all connected.

A consistent point guard means even better star play. Jokic is effective no matter what, but it is up to the team to surround him with the right tools. And, that includes the right point guard play.

The point guard play is one area Denver needs to shore up. Otherwise, it could come back to bite them.
