Jamal Murray was able to defeat the favorite, Lou Williams, in the Taco Bells Skills Challenge, but was knocked out by Spencer Dinwiddie, the eventual champion of the contest.

Jamal Murray came in to the Taco Bells Skills Challenge as a heavy underdog. The announcers would not even mention his name as they continued to spout ” Lou Williams this, Joel Embiid that.”

Then, Murray actually knocked out Lou Williams in a surprising turn of events when Williams messed up on the passing portion of the obstacle course. Murray capitalized and was able to move on to the next round in the bracket.

He was then matched up with the Brooklyn Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie. A player who happens to also be a Colorado product himself. It looked as if Murray was in good shape as he was a step ahead of Dinwiddie for the entire obstacle course.

However, it was the final three point shot which hurt Jamal. Murray bricked his three point shot to move into the championship portion of the bracket, but Dinwiddie stepped into a rhythm three and knocked Jamal out of the contest with his first attempt on the final spot of the obstacle course.

It did hurt to see our point guard get knocked out in such a fashion, but the important thing to remember this is just for fun and has no playoff implications. This weekend is for the players to unwind and as long as Murray had fun and put up a good fight in this instance, it was well worth it.

Not to mention, Spencer Dinwiddie, the player who would go on to win the competition, actually went to a Colorado college which is a bit of a consolation.
