Bobby Jones: DWS 18.7

I couldn’t find a reproducible copy of the Bobby Jones poster that hung on my wall as a kid.  It was Bobby, in a suit, sitting at a very official-looking desk with the caption “Secretary of Defense”.  Those posters were very popular, the George Gervin “Iceman” offering was a favorite.

Bobby had a league-wide reputation as a lock down defender and took on the top players of his era as seen above with Jones guarding Dr. J, Julius Erving. Even with stellar competition, Jones averaged nearly two steals and two blocks per game, to go along with nine rebounds.

Jones earned 10 all-NBA/ABA first-team defensive nods in his stellar career, he was named to five NBA all-star teams and won a Championship with the Sixers in 1983.

Jones was traded, in 1977 along with Ralph Simpson to Philadelphia for George McGinnis.
