However, which team in the West will be their biggest rival next season? Will it be a team out of their division such as the defending champion Golden State Warriors? Will it be the now LeBron James led Los Angeles Lakers?
Or, will it be a division rival such as the Timberwolves, Jazz, Trail Blazers or even the Thunder? Here is who I believe will be Denver’s most competitive rival for the next NBA season.
I truly believe that the Minnesota Timberwolves will be in for another tough battle with the Denver Nuggets. After defeating the Nuggets in a play in game last season, the Nuggets are going to have something to prove and certainly want some type of vengeance.
While the Timberwolves are not exactly the poster child for rivalries with the Nuggets like the Trail Blazers or even the Lakers, last season left a sour taste in Denver’s mouth at the end of the year.
Now, with reports saying Jimmy Butler is not content with the young stars of Minnesota in Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony Towns, things are now getting interested. The Denver Nuggets have gotten a lot better this off season which means they are going to be another tough competitor for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
For all we know, Denver and Minnesota will be in for another battle for a playoff spot. However, this time it may be for a spot such as the fourth seed rather than the eighth seed.
The rivalry has already taken a key turn for the better after the play in game last year, so it is safe to say that the Minnesota Timberwolves will be the Denver Nuggets’ biggest rival in the Western Conference come next season.
