When it comes to the plethora of stars the Denver Nuggets have possessed, who is the most underrated?

The Denver Nuggets have had quite a bit of star power throughout their history contrary to popular belief. We all know about Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Dikembe Mutombo, Chauncey Billups, Alex English, Dan Issell and Kiki Vandeweghe.

However, there is another player who belongs in this elite rank who often gets overlooked. That would be the one and only Fat Lever.

Many forget, Lever was English’s co-star during the 1980’s. He knew how to stuff the stat sheet and is one of the most underrated point guards in NBA history as well.

Per basketball reference, Lever is currently ranked 73rd in career assists with a total of 4,696 and finished in the top 10 for four seasons in this category. Lever is also in the top 10 on the all time triple double lists. That is right folks, the Nuggets had a triple double machine before Nikola Jokic was even a thought.

Lever also had a few seasons where he averaged close to three steals per game. During his last two seasons with the Nuggets when they made the playoffs, he finished with a defensive box plus/minus score of four and 4.1.

Not to mention, he was selected to two All Star games during his career. Lever was a great point guard who knew how to control the tempo and rack up the numbers. As a matter of fact, there are some fans who are even willing to put Lever over Chauncey Billups when it comes to the Denver Nuggets’ greats.

With all of this in mind, it is clear that Fat Lever is the most underrated star in Denver Nuggets’ history.

It is time for the rest of the league and NBA historians to remember how great he really was for the Nuggets.
